Plant stanols andyour patients
Plant stanol ester, the cholesterol-lowering ingredient in Benecol® foods, provides a safe and effective way to lower your patients’ low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) as part of a healthy diet.15–20. Benecol’s range of cholesterol lowering foods, with added plant stanol ester, provides rapid and sustainable cholesterol reduction.15,21

Cholesterol lowering
The cholesterol-lowering effect of the plant stanols in Benecol products has been demonstrated in over 80 published clinical studies. The EU Register on Nutrition and Health Claims, based on scientific evaluations by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), advises that a daily intake of 1.5–3.0 g of plant stanols reduces LDL cholesterol by 7–12.5% in 2–3 weeks.15 This effect is sustained as long as the daily intake of plant stanol is within the recommended range.21
